"End of life care"

About: Mater Hospital / Ward A

(as a relative),

My father in law was admitted into Ward A and was treated with kindness, respect and dignity.

Despite the extremely challenging times for our NHS, my father in law was moved into a large private side room with several fans. It was quiet and peaceful. The staff provided my family with a comfort trolley and continually checked and explained each stage to us.

A staff nurse Julie was so compassionate and intuitive to the pain and sadness we were experiencing. The palliative care nurses were amazing and so supportive. The staff in the coffee shop showed such kindness, one member of staff even helped me carry soft drinks entire way back up to the room. Other staff members from the restaurant demonstrated such care and thoughtfulness too.

God called my father in law home and he left this earthly world peacefully.

My family thank you all for keeping him comfortable and treating him with dignity. Also, for being there for us in our sadness and grief.

We pray for all our hospital workers and thank God for them in these challenging times. My father in law was always very appreciative of our NHS staff.

Thank you

Dear pagerjc33

My name is Bernie Carey and I am the service manager of ward A at the Mater Hospital Your message truly touched me. I’m so sorry for your loss,

Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt message. It’s deeply moving to hear how your father-in-law was cared for with such dignity respect and compassion during such a difficult time. Your words are a beautiful tribute to the kindness and dedication of the staff and it is comforting to know that your father-in-law was surrounded by kindness and peace in his final days. The compassion shown by staff like Julie and the palliative care team, as well as those in the coffee shop and restaurant, speaks volumes about the heart of our NHS.

Thinking of you and your family with deepest sympathy. I will share this beautiful post with All the staff mentioned. I’m grateful you took the time to share such a moving tribute

Thanks again and take care
