We arrived at the hospital at 7:30am, and were shown to our recovery bed to unpack and change intro scrubs. We were the first to be called into theatre because of my wife’s previous abdominal operations due to Crohn’s disease. Before 10am we had a beautiful healthy baby in our arms, delivered by an outstanding team. In total there were around 12 in the room, including the lead surgeon Amelia, lead midwife Grace, anaesthetist Alice, and 8-9 others I didn’t get to properly speak with. The lead surgeon ran the whole show. We then stayed for 2 days and received care that was full of empathy and kindness, in particular by midwives Jamie and Needa, and a bunch of others whose names I’m ashamed to admit I can’t remember. The only slight problems was that they forgot to order pain meds so we stayed for another night, but it wasn’t a big deal.
All in all we had a fabulous experience, and are so thankful to the team there. Despite being short staffed, their professionalism and passion never seemed to waver. We’re so grateful to them.
