"Removal of womb cervix fallopian tubes and ovaries due to womb cancer"

About: Belfast City Hospital / General Surgery Belfast City Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with womb cancer but had a Mirena coil fitted in Altnagelvin Hospital which my body rejected which gave me life threatening Sepsis. I needed my womb removed as the cancer I had was aggressive and was also life threatening as it could have spread to all my other organs.

I was given an appointment with Dr Harley who recommended that the womb must be removed but only with my consent. I was given another appointment to come in to Belfast City Hospital to have the womb removed by keyhole surgery.

The nurses and the surgeons who operated on me were so kind and thoughtful as well as being extremely knowledgeable about what they were supposed to do and for that I am extremely grateful.

The aftercare from the nurses who looked after me was second to none. The day nurses and the night nurses made me feel very safe and secure. I will never forget any of them. Thank you everyone for everything that you do for your patients. X

Dear Ami lou

My name is Tracey I am the Assistant Services Manager for Gynaecology in the Belfast Trust.

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis and the challenges you faced with sepsis.

I am very grateful to you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience within the Gynae oncology service in BCH both medical and nursing and Ward 5 South.

We are very fortunate to have such a great team of medical and nursing staff to look after our patients at such difficult times. It is a pleasure to see you refer to them as being kind thoughtful and knowledgeable. I will be delighted to share this feedback with the team who will be extremely grateful that despite recovering from surgery you have taken the time to acknowledge their input to your care which is very important to them.

I wish you all the best with your recovery.

Kind regards

Tracey
