"Getting a prescription"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a parent/guardian),

We spoke to our health visitor about ongoing issues with our baby’s constipation and the pain he’s been in for 5 weeks. They recommended lactulose and phoned our GP to be prescribed.

We were then told to phone back after 5pm to see if the doctor was going to even prescribe it. We were asked why he needed it by the member of staff we spoke to, in what I felt was a very cheeky manner yet again. Every time we phoned we always found this member of staff so narky and cheeky.

We have a 5-week unwell son and the last thing we needed was a member of staff making out we are stupid for trying to help him. And then when went down to get the prescription they never even muttered a word to my wife. It felt like we were crazy for asking for this.

Dear Mark1091,

Thank you for sharing your experience of your GP practice.

I am sorry to hear that the receptionist was very abrupt with you whilst trying to get a prescription for your 5-week unwell son. This is not the level of service we expect our staff to deliver and it is very disappointing to hear.

GP surgeries are independent contractors and as such, are not registered to respond on Care Opinion but are responsible for investigating any feedback or concerns about their service. Please could I invite you to contact the practice manager so they can investigate your concerns about the staff member.

Kind Regards,

Margaret
