"I left feeling unsafe and unheard"

About: Basildon Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I went to A&E at 19 weeks pregnant with severe fatigue, confusion, lightheadedness, fainting, vision and hearing changes, and nausea.

The doctor I saw was extremely rude and dismissive, looking at me with a judgmental attitude and telling me that what I was experiencing was apparently normal in pregnancy.

In my opinion, this is not normal, and I left feeling unsafe and unheard. Despite being in distress, my concerns were minimized rather than investigated properly. I believe pregnancy is not a reason to dismiss potentially serious symptoms, and no one should feel ignored or belittled while seeking urgent medical care.

I hope this review highlights the need for better empathy, attention, and proper assessment of pregnant patients in A&E
