"Exceptional care and dignity"

About: Fife Spiritual Care Services Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 1 (Emergency Medical) Victoria Hospital / Palliative Care and Hospice

(as a relative),

Summary: I would like to give the most positive feedback to ward 43 staff. My mum was admitted through AU1, we met Dr Williamson and her advice and care were amazing and so helpful to mum and our family, this wisdom allowed mum to die with dignity and surrounded by her family and the exceptional care offered by everyone on AU1 and ward 43.

From the journey from my mum to hospital to the complete care she received from the palliative care team, chaplains, nursing team, auxiliaries, we as a family had so much admiration. The staff were always ready to help us and listen to us, they showed respect to my mum, who was in a coma for most of her stay, addressing her by name, handling her with care and compassion.

The family felt so very welcomed and cared for too; offered endless cups of tea, coffee, and given food at times we needed this. The palliative use of just in case medicines when we requested was given so promptly and with great care, especially nurse Bincy, went out of her way to help, even when she was working on a different part of the ward she covered the other nurse's break and gave my mum treatment within a few minutes.

Frances the nurse gave us some palliative care information, and this comforted us as my mum passed away on ward 43. Kelly an auxiliary should be highly praised for her humanity and lightness of spirit, in making what for us was a difficult journey into one of gentleness and peace.

We are grateful to the spiritual team who organised father Jim to give our mum the last rights. And then visited with us. The nurses who were so caring, we never met anyone who wasn’t working within a kind and gentle way, we are indebted to such a caring and kind atmosphere, which can only come from the nursing leads on the ward and trickles down to the whole team.

Our mum’s death was a beautiful experience for all her family. We are so very grateful and want to extend our thanks to the whole team on AU1 and ward 43, this was mum’s second stay within weeks in the ward and through Au1. Your hospital has done an incredible job in being so professional and caring, whilst we know the pressures the NHS is under, we were never felt to be burden or mum’s care needs unimportant at any point.

On behalf of the AU1 team, thank you sincerely for your kind and thoughtful feedback regarding the care your mother received. I will ensure your comments are shared with the entire team, including Dr Williamson.

I’m glad to hear that, despite the difficulty of the circumstances, your mother’s passing was experienced as a positive and compassionate moment for your family. It means a great deal to us to know that our care made a difference during such an important time.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your reflections

Kind regards

Jamie
