My daughter was referred to CAMHs at the beginning of the year and was first seen in march. Originally seeing Elena for a choice appointment and then started to be assessed for adhd by Bassey.
My daughter had struggled for a long time and her mental health got far worse at the end of 2024/ beginning of 2025. We had been back and forth to the GP and often felt that our concerns were not being listened to and my daughter was starting to feel let down and that no one would help her.
That stopped the moment she was first seen at CAMHs.
The environment was calm the doctors she seen quickly gained her trust and her symptoms were quickly recognised as potentially being ADHD. The assessment process was over in a few months and she received her diagnosis. She now awaits being seen by the medication clinic.
At each appointment my daughter was given the opportunity to speak for herself and to advocate for how she feels. As a parent I was also able to discuss my concerns. The clinicians we seen were compassionate, kind and explained the process in detail. As a family we finally felt listened to and the experience has regained a trust in mental health services.
A special shout out should go to Bassey who completed my daughter’s assessment. Bassey always gave us the opportunity to speak always asking if we had questions and had such a calming demeanour. Bassey I believe has now moved on from the service as he is still in training but I have absolutely no doubt that following completion of his training he will go on to become a wonderful doctor.
