"OT support for Autistic Son"

About: Community Mental Health / General Adult Psychiatry Community Occupational Therapy Team (GAP Adult CMHT) Perth Royal Infirmary / Mental Health

(as a parent/guardian),

After our son had Autistic Burnout and severe anxiety, the Mental Health team supported him for 9 months, and then referred an OT for him. Our experience with the OT from both his and his parents perspective has been very positive. Being able to meet him in his house, helping him to understand his sensory and anxiety issues and suggesting methods to overcome them.  With him, the OT has set manageable goals for our son to achieve - which they are currently progressing well. The OT has developed a good relationship with both him, and us as his parents, and also taken time to understand his individual needs in order to support him successfully.
