"Confidentiality"

About: South Tyrone Hospital / Radiology

(as a service user),

While waiting on an x-ray in South Tyrone hospital I was disappointed to be able to hear confidential patient information coming from the reception desk. Clerical staff were making and receiving phone calls in what appeared to be a newly refurbished x-ray waiting area. On each occasion it was impossible not to hear names, dates of birth and procedures being discussed over the phone. These details included appointments for named individuals for intimate scans and I can only imagine the patients would be horrified to think everyone in a busy waiting room could hear their private information.

Dear Hadarpw49,

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback and for bringing this matter to our attention.

I apologise that you had a disappointing experience while attending the X-Ray Department.

We have recently undergone a huge refurbishment to our department, including the Waiting and Reception Area to provide a better and more comfortable patient experience.

I assure you that we take patient confidentiality very seriously and I will follow up to see what improvements can be made for the future.

Kind Regards,

Melissa Donaldson

Site Lead Radiographer.
