I personally didn’t have the best experience at MAU in the sense of there was no clarification or good communication.
I went in because of some concerns I was having despite explaining being high risk was told I should have called first but having called MAU before the phone just rings out and nobody answers which is why my last visit I had to go to a different hospital for help.
I was eventually taken into the bay and asked what my symptoms were even though I had already given them, then was monitored along with baby and my details were incorrect on the machine printing babies heart rate.
I had multiple tests done and when it was time to handover the second midwife didn’t introduce theirself or anything and told me I needed to remove the straps myself from my stomach which I’ve never been on this machine before I don’t know how this works.
The first midwife came back and said goodbye to us which I appreciated and they were very nice. Then when the doctor came round again I was asked what my symptoms were and for the pains I was having I was given omeprazole which the pains were not stomach related.
I also had to have an internal examination which involved the doctor and the midwife which was unusual for me and they could see I was very uncomfortable and in pain and the midwife told me to just breathe through it.
At this point I still hadn’t received the results of my blood test and was then given an ECG which felt quite degrading as my body was just exposed same with the internal examination. Then the ECG sheet was printed and the midwife said I could go home even though the doctor had asked if we would wait for the results.
We didn’t get any results or any clarification of what my symptoms were they just got written off as typical pregnancy symptoms as it was my first pregnancy when they were signs of pre eclampsia.
I still don’t have the results for the tests done and just didn’t like the experience I had which is off putting as I wanted to give birth at PRUH and now I’m considering not to.
Overall the care and communication was just not present and I don’t feel despite advocating for myself my concerns were taken seriously.
