"Loud visitors"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Child visitors in postnatal ward watching loud YouTube videos. I did say something to member of staff but nothing was done so I had to ask them to be quiet myself after getting totally frustrated and overwhelmed.

It's not fair on new mothers who may be exhausted from birth, cluster feeding, etc especially those who have other health issues which exacerbate the situation. I shouldn't have had to speak to the people myself or feel like I needed to leave my bed and go somewhere else while in pain.

Dear empathyce65,

Thank you so much for sharing this feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience, and we completely understand how upsetting and overwhelming that situation must have been—especially during such a vulnerable and physically demanding time.

The postnatal period is incredibly precious, and we aim to provide a calm, supportive environment where new mothers can rest and recover in peace. I am sorry that you felt unheard and unsupported, and I am sorry that you had to manage the situation yourself while in pain.

We absolutely welcome siblings on the ward and we aim to ensure that this doesn't compromise the experience of other women. Your feedback highlights an important area where we need to do better, and we will ensure this is shared with the team so we can take steps to prevent similar situations in the future.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. Your voice matters, and we’re committed to making sure every mother feels safe, respected, and cared for.

Warm regards,

Gaynor
