Recently I had to visit a friend in Warrington hospital after he had a stroke. During the visit which had lots of staff going in and out an older man opposite decided he needed to go to the toilet (obviously needed a bedpan to do that) which the staff provided instantly. The only problem with that was they didn't close the curtains whilst he emptied his bowels until I pointed out that there were children present and it wasn't appropriate to let them see it. Fair enough they closed them straight away and they opened them straight after he had finished.
Then as if that was unacceptable and unprofessional enough within minutes the same patient started to act very inappropriate and the children were still around and it took me once again to ask staff to pull the curtains around.
I was so distraught by this I had to leave the ward and sit outside. A student nurse walked past me and I told her they deserved a medal to deal with such disturbing situations and the response was oh he does it all the time!
Surely then using their own independent thinking when it occurs they should automatically close the curtains or move him to a private room or somewhere else to deal with it and not to let him do these things with minors there. Am I wrong about this I don't know but I am definitely disturbed by it.
