"I will never forget their kindness"

About: The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73)

(as a service user),

I had a very traumatic birth in the PRM three years ago. I wanted to comment on the postnatal care that I received which was excellent and really helped me when I was at my most vulnerable. There was one senior midwife, Hamdi (I’m sure she usually worked on labour ward but had been drafted in to cover the postnatal ward) who helped me more than she will ever know. She was so genuine, kind and calm and reassured me I would be ok when I needed it most. She gave me a side room, arranged another consultant review and was then on first name terms with my husband allowing him to come in outwith visiting hours. I couldn’t believe how young she was and when she told me her age and she modestly shrugged it was quite easy to get a senior post as a midwife.

I will never forget her kindness and anyone who gets her in labour is extremely lucky.
I’m now expecting my second child and hope I come across some of the same midwives as I did with my first!

Dear airkc49,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on Care Opinion. It is great to hear that despite having such a traumatic birth Hamdi provided you with the care and support you needed at a vulnerable time. I will be delighted to share your story with her, she will be very touched by it. Hopefully all is going well this time and you may have the chance to meet her again.

Best Wishes,

Tracy Orr

Lead Midwife
