"Antenatal Appointments"

About: Maternity care / Antenatal Clinic (Anderson House)

(as a service user),

I have been attending the antenatal dept and gestational diabetes clinic for my pregnancies over 3 years. It is very disappointing to find in over 3 years the clinic is always running a minimum of 30 minutes late. It is completely unacceptable for people who make time to be punctual for appointments and make commitments to have childcare prior to these appointments. What is the reason for this? Why are they always late? How many patients are seen on time? Has this been reviewed for improvement or is it just left to run itself? It is so poor for service users and there does not seem to be any efforts to improve this. The staff are standing in the Anderson house corridors relaxed and talking. It seems very unprofessional.

Thank you for your valuable feedback regarding your recent antenatal clinic experience at Altnagelvin. As newly appointed lead midwife for Continuity of Midwifery Care/Community Midwifery and Outpatients, your experience of maternity services is very important to me and the wider team.

I am sorry to hear your antenatal clinic waiting times have not improved and I understand the impact delays can have on childcare commitments and daily life. As a service we are currently reviewing our antenatal clinic service in relation to waiting times and it will remain a priority over the next few weeks and months.

Professional standards and behaviour is expected from all staff at the WHSCT. I will share this feedback with our team and I hope you have a more positive experience at your next antenatal clinic appointment.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your feedback and if you have any further queries you can contact me through the maternity team at Anderson House antenatal clinic.

Kind regards

Fiona Lindsay

Lead Midwife for CoMC/Community Midwifery & Outpatients
