"Test result availability"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital

(as a service user),

I attend haematology clinic regularly. I have been using My Chart app for several months. Generally I find the app useful for updating my appointments and medication prescription.

However test results are not very useful. Normal test results are available on the app within  a couple of hours. Abnormal results are not available for 2 to 3 weeks. This is pointless for someone with a chronic condition where Abnormal results are expected but variations are important.

Also, in the message centre  I am unable to send messages to anyone, so not very useful. Is there anyway of fixing these issues?

Good morning arazh35

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of using the My Chart app and we are sorry for the delay in responding to you. It is good to read that generally you find the app quite useful, however we are sorry to read that you have had issues with accessing blood results and also sending messages. As the My Chart app is managed at a regional level, we have shared your feedback with our colleagues there for learning and reflection.

With kind regards

Christine Armstrong

Good morning arazh35 - I hope you are keeping well.

Further to my response above, I wanted to post an update following some advice from our regional colleagues.

We have been advised that the release of test results was set by the encompass Doctors Advisory Committee (DAC). This committee is made up of doctors representing a wide range of specialties and Trusts.

Some results are released immediately, some automatically after 15 days (giving clinicians time to speak with the patient first) and some are not released without being manually released by a clinician. All test results can be manually released by a clinician and we would advise you to speak with your clinician at your next appointment so that you can have a plan for what is best for you in relation to the release of results of your blood tests in the future.

In response to your feedback regarding patient initiated messaging, unfortunately this is a feature which is not currently available in Northern Ireland.

We thank you again for your feedback and we hope that you will continue to find the My Chart app helpful.

With best wishes
