"Excellent care provided for my mother"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Acute Hospital at Home

(as a relative),

I would like to send my gratitude for the excellent care my 80 year old mother received when she was brought by ambulance to ED at the Royal Devon University Hospital last week.

Notable highlights were:

- the time, respect, patience and kindness afforded to my mother by all staff despite her distress, anxiety, mild confusion and frailty meaning she requires time to explain herself, answer questions and for practical tasks. I am a health care professional myself and I learnt a great deal by watching how the staff cared for her

- the emergency department staff were thorough, gentle and efficient in dealing with the clinical situation and directing her care onwards once it was safe to do so

- the Frailty Team from SDEC were superb in assessing my mothers wider medical and social situation, creating an investigation and management plan for ongoing care and designing an updated care plan for medication which, firstly, enabled her to be discharged to her own home the same evening and secondly, has made a significant improvement to her quality of life since she has been home.

I would be pleased if this feedback and thanks could be forwarded to these teams mentioned above.

Thank you to you all.

Dear Daughter54,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your mother’s care. I’m especially pleased to hear that you found the Emergency Department team to be both efficient and kind.

We aim to provide compassionate, timely, and high-quality care to all our patients, and it’s encouraging to know that this was reflected in your mother’s experience. Your kind words will be shared with the team—they will be heartened to know their efforts made a positive impact.

I hope your mother is recovering well.
