The people I saw and spoke to recently were excellent and professional.
There does seem to be a mismatch in the information that various parts of the NHS have about capabilities of other parts.
I was bitten by an animal and phoned NHS24. As I wasn’t sure of my Tetanus status they referred me to Forth Valley A&E in Larbert as the MIU in Stirling did not have the tetanus facility. They apologised for having to send me further from my home.
I was seen very promptly at A&E who carried out the Tetanus test and then booked me an appointment at the MIU as they could take care of everything else. Again they apologised that the MIU did not have the tetanus test / tetanus facility. This was OK as I understand that A&E can be busy.
When I got to the MIU they were surprised that NHS 24 had referred me to A&E first. The Stirling MIU do have the facility to test for tetanus and to provide a tetanus shot.
Whilst it was inconvenient as a patient to have to travel between the 2 facilities, it seems to be more of a waste of A&E time to deal with something the MIU unit are capable of.
"Sent between 2 facilities"
