"Exceptional family care during hospital visit"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Inpatient Occupational Therapy

(as a relative),

My elderly mother was admitted to an orthopaedic ward at Wishaw General.  She had several severe breaks, and a set of complex health conditions impacting her care. We found many of the nursing and wider staff to be very attentive and caring, but we wanted to make a special acknowledgment to the OT team who were exceptional in their care.

In particular, we would love to say thank you to Catherine (OT) who was wonderful with my mother (an independent spirit!) She ensured mum felt a great sense of autonomy and control over her decision making and care discussion.  However, what really set Catherine apart is that she made me and the family feel that she was there to support us too.  She took the time in her very busy schedule to listen to my concerns, answer my questions and made me feel supported and informed.

Often in the ward, I felt a little lost, like I was failing at advocating for my mum through naivety, and always felt like I was bothering busy staff with questions. Catherine made me feel like my questions, stresses and concerns were important, and that I was welcome to ask for this kind of support, as part of ensuring my mum’s long term care and safety.

I cannot thank her and the team enough for making me feel supported at one of the most challenging times we have faced as a family. I will not forget your kindness, compassion and your incredible expertise!

Dear Grateful Anon this feedback is heartening to read and it sounds as though you have had a really challenging time. I am glad to hear the care you received was not only exceptional but helped to offer your mother and yourself the reassurance and compassion needed at this time. This feedback will be very well received by both the team and Catherine specifically. Wishing you well in the future and again thanks for taking the time Lesley

Dear Grateful Anon, I am delighted you and your mother had such a positive experience with occupational therapy. It is wonderful to hear that your mother felt empowered within rehab and that her wishes were listened to. When loved ones are in hospital it can be quite worrying so I am glad Catherine took the time to put your mind at ease. I will ensure Catherine recieves your compliments and I wish your mother all the best in her recovery at home

Many thanks for taking the time to provide us with feedback,

Eilis
