Just thought I would write this review as I’d been told so many horror stories from other people about having this procedure done - I was really nervous and anxious after reading up about it online and it recommending general anaesthetic- I decided to go with an open mind and try it without and just opt for local anaesthetic.
I’ve been suffering with really heavy and prolonged periods which have been lasting up to 3 months at a time - so heavy I’m anaemic and something needed done !
I was given an appointment last minute for North Tyneside after having a one for Wansbeck cancelled, I arrived early, didn’t wait long, was seen to promptly all by very nice chatty staff. When it was my turn to go in I was nervous but knew I needed something done.
The Dr was lovely, asked lots of questions and gave me options, explained about the procedure and we decided to try and see how I went and if I was tolerating it ok he would insert the Mirena coil. The nurses were lovely and helped to distract me. Sharp stingy scratch when the needle for anaesthetic went in but not unbearable - probably only 6-7 seconds of pain, then he said the mirena coil was in! Next was the biopsy - the pain was a bit more than the anaesthetic nip - but again not unbearable - it was quick and I’d also taken ibuprofen 30 mins before my appointment which probably helped a bit too. That was me done - had no more pain relief at home and no cramping which I was dreading ! Had a little bit of pain early hours in bed after rolling onto my tummy but nothing major! So far so good - I hope this will be the end to my nightmare periods but I can’t praise my experience enough, lovely gynaecology unit- exceptionally clean and lovely staff! Thanks a million!
"Exceptionally clean and lovely staff!"
