"Outstanding service from diabetes specialist nurses"

About: Community Nursing / Diabetes Nursing

(as the patient),

Seeking to undergo a TURPs procedure soon, I was referred to Eastwoodmains Medical Centre for urgent intervention to lower my blood glucose levels. The care provided by Diabetes Specialist Nurse Clare, (and Kathy whilst Clare was on holiday) proved exemplary from the outset.

Assessment and Approach

Upon my arrival, Clare performed a thorough assessment of my medical background and current diabetic status. Her manner was both professional and reassuring, demonstrating a clear understanding not only of the clinical requirements but also the anxieties associated with an upcoming surgical procedure. Clare’s attention to detail ensured all relevant factors were considered, including my daily routines and previous treatments.

Treatment and Care

Following the assessment, Clare concluded that introducing insulin was necessary to achieve a rapid and safe reduction in blood sugar levels. The prescription was tailored to my specific needs, and she took time to explain the regimen, possible side effects, the importance of monitoring, and practical advice on insulin administration and self-care.

Support and Communication

Clare was attentive to my concerns, responding with clarity and empathy. Clare provided instructions and encouraged me to reach out with any questions or difficulties. Her accessibility and willingness to adapt the plan as needed made the process less daunting. On one occasion, whilst Clare was on holiday, Kathy provided support, offering additional guidance and providing booklets on what I could eat and Diabetes in general. Their teamwork was seamless, ensuring I felt supported and informed at every step. Clare always phoned me on the day she said she would. This was much appreciated.

Outcome

Within a short timeframe, my blood sugar levels improved markedly, putting me in an optimal condition for the scheduled TURPs procedure. The focused intervention delivered by Clare and Kathy not only met the clinical objective but also enhanced my confidence in managing my diabetes. Since the operation, Clare has suggested a course of action to the specialist diabetes doctor where we will monitor taking a tablet rather than injecting insulin.

Conclusion

The service provided by Clare and Kathy at Eastwoodmains Medical Centre was outstanding. Their expertise, compassion, and commitment to patient-centred care made a significant difference to my health and peace of mind. I am grateful for their support and would highly recommend their services to anyone in need of specialist diabetic care.
