"You have changed my life for the better"

About: Addiction services / Doncaster Substance Misuse Service - New Beginnings

(as the patient),

I became an alcoholic 2.5 years ago. Progressively drinking more, 7 days a week. Realising I had a problem I sought  help through sober social, then aspire which I was offered to do detox at new beginnings.

All the staff straight away made me feel welcome and comfortable, I felt very supported and safe. The facility its self was remarkable - activities, well stocked with food and drink, clean and the rooms were lovely. Not one single staff member had any judgement and showed empathy and kindness, it wasn't just a job to them and it showed, a very professional caring team.

Even on the hard days the staff were there to listen and help me through them, talking to me, offering me advice and for that i cannot thank them enough.

I myself met an amazing group of people who also helped me through my journey, that I now call friends and met amazing people doing the after program which I will be attending myself.

There was one particular staff member who was the leader of the group sessions, from the start of my journey I attended every group session, the groups unlocked a lot of traumas and difficult times past and present, as hard as it was to unlock it needed to happen, but every time by the end of each session I felt hopeful and relieved. The team leader giving me advice and information on how to deal and manage these things. This woman has absolutely inspired me and essentially saved my life! Thank you for being you and inspiring not only me but so many people to change their lives.

I cannot thank the team at new beginnings Doncaster enough for their continued support and encouragement, you have changed my life for the better.

Alcohol addiction is one of the most easiest addictions to have, I know from experience as Alcohol is legal, there are so many people all around the country suffering from it, meeting people who have come as far as 2 hours, to not have the opportunity to meet people in there own area and have access to the support groups after there initial detox is such a shame, it would be so beneficial to so many women and men to have New beginnings country wide. Saving lives, battling mental health and addiction one life at a time.
