"A positive experience"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter - who is in her 30s - had been very unwell for 3 days with vomiting and diarrhoea, because of her ongoing health conditions we hesitantly phoned 111.

From the telephone call with the call handler to the chat with the nurse we were treated with the utmost respect and listened to about our concerns. We were advised to attend A&E at University Hospital Crosshouse.

On arrival the receptionist was lovely and very helpful. The triage nurse was very thorough and reassuring. Yes, we had a bit to wait until we were seen by the doctor, however we were seen within four hours of arrival, this has to be expected.

Can we thank Dr Agard, a specialist trainee who was extremely thorough and helpful throughout the consultation. She has a lovely manner with her patients, listens to what they say and explains what she is doing and why.

Luckily she was able to prescribe treatment which settled things down enough for her to be sent home. She isn’t out the woods yet but feeling so much better, thanks to the care she received.

We hear so many complaints about care in hospitals we felt it important to let the clinicians and receptionists know of our positive experience.

Dear Lainey63

With my apologies for the length of time it has taken me to reply to you, I would like to add my thanks to those of my colleague Stephanie, within in NHS 24 for taking the time and trouble to share this lovely feedback.

I am sorry to hear that your daughter needed to attend the Emergency Department, University Hospital Crosshouse after being unwell for 3 days, but glad to know that she received such professional, friendly and compassionate care from our all of our staff there. It’s often the small things that can make such a big difference in reassuring patients or their relatives such as taking the time to explain what is happening and why. I am glad to hear that the prescribed treatment was able to settle things down enough to allow her to be discharged home. This is a lovely example of the patient centred care that we strive to provide.

Our staff really appreciate receiving feedback from their patients and their relatives and it will be my pleasure to share your kind comments with the wider Team in the Department and with Dr Agard in particular.

Please accept my best wishes for your daughter’s ongoing recovery and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
