"Communication is key"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Respiratory Medicine (Breathing and Lung Problems)

(as a relative),

The complete lack of communication is an abomination to say the least, seemed like no-one knew what was happening ie blood tests, whom was looking after my dad, what and why they were or were not doing treatment, but as long as a DNR was in place its ok.

He was given no feed for 24hrs, he wasn't dressed he was left with faeces on his hands, his peg feed line wasn't getting cleaned, no-one had given him a shower in over a week. Still waiting for physio to clear his chest of phlem as he was asperating as he cant swallow which is possibly why he keeps having recurring chest infections. I know staff are busy but I would definitely have expected better care. They also moved him to a different ward without informing my mum. This has caused my mum extreme distress and is desperate to get him home to have proper care and attention. The whole family are not happy to say the least.  We were told his chest was clear to begin with then told he could go home then told he had asperation pneumonia. Communication is key and would save a lot of stress and heartache

Good Morning,

I am truly sorry to hear about your recent experience with your Dad's stay and the difficulties you encountered with the health service. I can only imagine how upsetting and frustrtaing this must have been for you.

I'd like to look into this further, could you please send an email to gram.longtermconditions@nhs.scot and I will be in touch.

Many thanks

Karen Donald
