I was referred by my dentist to the dental hospital in Glasgow because of a problem tooth. When I spoke to a consultant at the initial interview, it was decided that, instead of the extraction that my dentist had recommended, I would be referred to the restorative department to see if the tooth could be saved. Professor McLean with great effort managed to save the tooth. I was of course delighted. As he had to remove a crown before he could treat the root, he said that I would be called back and one of the students would do a new crown.
When the students returned on the 1st of August, I was recalled and seen by two BDS4 students. The dentist was Amy and she was assisted by Lucy . Amy was doing a crown for the very first time. She was very enthusiastic, and very keen to get everything just right , checking with the dentist in charge, Dr Blair, whenever she was in any doubt. Lucy was a good help to her, sometimes pointing out something that she noticed that Amy hadn’t as well as taking the part of the dental nurse. Their manner was very pleasant and put me at my ease. Amy also explained what she was going to do as we went along. Altogether, it was a very positive experience and I would think these two students will do well in the future career.
