My sister got admitted to ward 6 after a short period in resus. The dignity, care and treatment she received during her stay was outstanding. All the staff, from the domestics to the nurses and doctors, genuinely cared for her and ensured that all her needs were met and more. The staff spoke to her and not about her, recognising her as a person and not by her disability. The staff listened to us as her family and guardians, taking into consideration our views and thoughts on potential treatment options. She was very much at the centre of decisions; a true experience and example of person-centred care. We cannot thank the staff enough, especially the lovely Sam and Maggie from nightshift and Frances and Kathryn on the dayshift who left no stone unturned, even if it meant staying on after their shift had ended. You all truly ‘got’ my sister and placed her at the centre of everything - for that I will be forever grateful. Nothing was ever too much to ask and we could tell you genuinely cared. You were all made for this line of work. Many places could learn a lot from your work ethic and skills.
"You were all made for this type of work."
