"Top class team"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 21-23)

(as the patient),

I had a very traumatic ankle break in storm Floris last week. I arrived at the RAH after a 3 hour ambulance drive from Argyll and was greeted by a warm and caring team in Ward 21.

The Ward is run exceptionally well. My mum who's a retired nurse from Sweden even commented on how impressed she was. Day shift made sure everyone in our room (Room 2) had been taken care of before night shift came in. I had to wait 3 days for surgery, but every morning without fail I was given a basin with hot soapy water to bathe myself and a fresh new hospital gown. If I was struggling with pain, I was listened to and given relief. As a young woman, I felt my dignity was preserved as nurses helped me navigate the bathroom. I always had a jug of water on my table and was never made to feel a hassle if I called for help with the buzzer. Every day someone was in cleaning the floors. I witnessed the nurses, student nurses, and support workers working very hard. Even when they were in difficult situations, they kept their composure and maintained compassion and empathy.

I want to say a special thank you to the following staff: Victoria who looked after me all through the night after my surgery, Kayleigh who treated everyone in our room with such kindness, Catriona and Esther who made sure I was not suffering through the pain, Chelsea for getting me discharged in one piece, all the support workers running to my buzzer calls, pharmacist David, the physio team, the theatre nurses and anaesthetists for calming my nerves, and surgeon Dr Hazarika for fixing me up. Student nurses Siobhann and Jamie, you will make an excellent addition to the NHS. I hope the staff mentioned see this - Their hard work doesn't go unnoticed in these difficult times!

Dear robinweb67

Thank you so much for your very complementary feedback on the care you received while in Ward 21.

It is always our intention that our staff endeavour to make our patients hospital stay as bearable as possible and that they are treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

It is re-assuring to hear that you felt listened to and staff were able to assist you and make you feel as comfortable as possible while you were experiencing a very traumatic period in your life.

I will share your positive feedback with the W21 team, including Victoria, Kyleigh, Esther, Catriona, Esther Siobhan, Jamie, David the pharmacist, the theatre team and Mr Hazarika.

They will be delighted to know that their hard work has been acknowledged.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards

Susan
