I went to my GP with lower back pain and leg pain and was referred for an emergency scan at the trauma unit in Wishaw hospital and told they wanted to rule out cauda equine syndrome. I went into the hospital and was given a bed. The nurses in that unit were lovely and I have nothing negative to say about the staff as they were absolutely amazing.
I went into the trauma unit around 2pm and lay in a bed until 8pm without having any scans done. I was told I wasn’t to eat or take any pain relief so I was in agony. All patients were told the ward closed at 8pm so we all got moved down to an already packed A&E. Where the chairs were metal which of course worsened my back and leg pain. A lot of the patients were very unhappy and ended up leaving as soon as they entered the a&e waiting room. I totally understand why a&e have to take the serious cases first however there was three of us that had already been in hospital all day waiting to see a doctor. I’m also not sure why they think it’s okay to just move people from a bed/ward who are incontinent, experiencing extreme pain to a very busy a&e waiting room.
Just after 10pm I decided to go up to the desk and ask if I could leave and if they could phone me with results to which the very nice receptionist went and checked and I was told they would phone me if they need me back for the scans I originally went up for. I was glad to be allowed home but also confused as to why they couldn’t have done this when the trauma unit closed…
The staff are lovely and helpful but the running of the hospital is, in my opinion, absolutely shocking. People being taken out of beds and wards to go and sit in the a&e waiting room. It wasn’t just my ward either. There was a lot of other wards that were put down there. On top of all this I’ve still not been called with the results/ advice.
