My wife had an operation to repair a broken hip at the Great Western Hospital. We were able to return home to Nantwich after discharge but after the journey back her leg was quite swollen. We went to Leighton to get it checked. Arrived at A&E during a Sunday afternoon and was initially dealt with quite quickly and had blood taken. There was a concern there may have been a blood clot. She was take to a cubicle in ‘Majors’ sharing it with 3 other people. There were no beds or trolleys available so she had to sit on a chair.
There were, apparently, no Doctors available so she stayed sitting on the chair, in great pain, all through the evening, all through the night and for most of the following morning. 17 hours in total. Eventually, on the Monday, a Doctor turned up and examined her. From there on the snails pace of treatment improved a bit and she had a doppler scan which showed no evidence of a blood clot. She was sent home.
Had there been a blood clot, sitting upright in a chair would not have been the best treatment in my layman’s view.
