"Horrendous waiting time"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Clinical Haematology (Ward 16)

(as a relative),

We are regular attenders at ward 11 Monkland where the staff are lovely and friendly and kind .  But that's where it ends .

The appointment system is ludicrous as basically there seems to be no appointment system and no matter when we go we can be expected to wait for an hour or hours in the waiting room.  We have never ever been taken at our appointment time except once for a blood test .  Today it was a one hour wait yet again for a 20 min treatment .  Given the serious nature of the illnesses people are attending this ward  every hour wait is an hour out of their already shortened life .  I wonder if the hospital knows the pain it causes people to sit on a hospital chair  for an unnecessary hour or two for every appointment or the fact that these are real human beings who are trying to get on and live their lives around all their medical appointments .

Recently we met a lovely person who was sat an hour past their appointment time .  They had booked a weekend away .  Their appointment was moved to the afternoon and they were left an hour past their appointment too .  They would be lucky if they were at their accommodation by bedtime .

We have also experience a huge issue with prescriptions .  We get a call in the morning saying the treatment is going ahead and the prescription is being prepared yet even when we sit 1 hour past our appointment time we are told the prescription isn't ready .  Can someone tell us how 2 1/2 hours after the phone call to tell us the prescription is being prepared it still isn't ready ?   This isn't a one off, it is every time were are there.

No chairs no prescriptions etc etc .  We have a child to collect from school so our appointment was brought forward 1/2 hr but were still sitting there waiting for the same amount of time and are barely making it to collect him on time. The system in this ward and with prescriptions is robbing people with life limiting conditions of time to live their lives .  It simply isn't acceptable.
