"Very wary of having a procedure like that done again"

About: Royal Bournemouth Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I attended for a flexible cystoscopy. I was nervous thinking about the procedure but the nursing staff put my mind at rest, when I entered the room the nursing staff introduced themselves & told me what to do & what would happen.

When the specialist entered the room they didn’t seem to smile or put me at ease, at this point I was extremely tense & they could not fit the flexible cystoscope & was pushing it with what felt like force, then got some other device twice to try to dilate me by this time I was in such pain I wanted it to be over, when it was over I was told it was clear which is obviously great news but I felt so violated I just wanted to run out of there & cry (I am not a wimp by any means). I can’t recall fully what was said but when I was dismissed I found my husband I cried & asked him to just get me home.

When I got to the car my legs were like jelly and I was shaking , I also went very cold, when got home I’m laid on the sofa and slept for two solid hours. I felt awful for a week were I felt I had been violated & still feel very wary of ever having a procedure like that done ever again.

I feel that a proper local anaesthetic should be given in these circumstances and certainly not forced if it won’t go in, I've had several procedures done in the last year none of which have left me traumatised like that.
