"Unable to get any help for my unrestorable teeth"

About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital / Maxillo-Facial surgery Milton Keynes Hospital / Oral surgery

(as the patient),

I have been going round and round and round and round and round the houses for years and years and years and years and years.  I have been suffering for 40 years only able to eat soft foods or sometimes liquid.  It got worse 5 years ago and I have been left on a liquid diet.  After botched unnecessary dentistry on teeth that should have been extracted 30 years ago, to cut a long story short, I have been left without any dentistry at all - no fillings, no cleanings, and unable to eat with tender teeth.  There was always an excuse - dentists sent to endodontist and endodontist sent to dentist.  Dentist sent to maxfax and maxfax said see a dentist.  Dentist said see GP and GP said see a dentist.  Over and over and over and over and over again for years and years and years and years and years.  More recently dentists just refer to another dentist I have already been to and have had their own excuses to get rid.  No-one cares that I can't bite or chew anything with worn out unrestorable tender teeth.

I am very persistent and have been to dozens of dentists (mostly private) as well as emailing them all locally and phoning round them all multiple times.  I have tried lots of oral surgeons both private and nhs and they are also not interested, hostile and won't bother in the slightest, bar one who extracted 4 tender teeth which helped, but was extremely hostile on the follow up and was secretly discharged unable to eat and left to deteriorate.

I have emailed many other organisations, my old MP, my new MP.  I am exhausted.  I could go on.  Is anyone paying attention?  Does anyone anywhere care?  Am I wasting more of my time on top of all the time I have wasted getting nowhere in 5 long agonising years.  My worn out unrestorable teeth are destroying my health.  It would be cheaper for the nhs to cure me, preferably 5 years ago instead of lots of excuses and leaving me on prescription meal replacement drinks and prescription strong painkillers at the tax-payers' expense.  The prognosis is that nothing will happen til I get sepsis and am an emergency.

I could go on and on but I have wasted thousands of hours on this so far and no-one will engage in healthcare at all so I am wasting my time.

Hi Lisa, Thanks for your response. I have previously been to MK PALS and found it worse than useless - expended a huge amount of time getting nowhere. A more recent attempt at a referral to MKH was rejected because it required someone else to make a list of all the problems and the reason I am trying to see a specialist is because no-one will do anything at all. Nothing. So I am completely snookered!

Hi

Thank you for your reply and I am sorry to hear you have been unable to resolve this. Without knowing all the details, it seems the issue relates to a number of NHS agencies (GP, Dentist, Hospital etc?). It may therefore be an idea to contact NHS England for overall support. You can email them at england.contactus@nhs.net Alternatively you can go through your local Integrated Care Board (ICB). The one covering Milton Keynes is Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes ICB and they can be contacted at blmkicb.contactus@nhs.net I hope this help, take care.

Thanks for your reply. I have already done that too. It took 6 months for the ICB to reply, and they couldn't help!

Years are going by with horrendous suffering when there is a really, really simple outpatients solution. There really is no need for all this suffering and medical merry-go-round when there is a really simple outpatients option - with just a bit of local anaesthetic.

I feel it just need someone to stop the endless passing the buck and actually grab hold of the problem and not rest until progress is made. This could have been done 5 long agonising tortuous years ago and ended all these prescriptions, appointments and emails.

It could be done now but I'm being stopped from getting on to the waiting list! So the medical merry-go-round goes on and on and on - despite there being a really simple cure!
