"Incomplete treatment"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Ophthalmology (eye problems) (Ward 1c)

(as a relative),

For I hear the ophthalmic dept battled to save my son's last eye. This I can say the consultant was excellent. Hence his original consultant came back after being off a year. This consultant suggested that after being on steroid drop for his eye every 2hrs. So we are sent home and was told he'd get an appointment in 6 weeks. My son has now began to lose his sight, cannot see his feet. I telephoned the appointments and was told he is on the waiting list. How can you be on a waiting list when there is ongoing treatment!?My son will be totally blind by the time he gets an appointment, he's in this mess because a cataract operation gone wrong! He needs to restart the medication and furthermore the consultant knew he wasn't getting an appointment for a least 6 months

Dear Shakespeare,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns regarding your son's recent experience with the Ophthalmology Department at Gartnavel General Hospital. I am very sorry to hear about the distressing situation your son is facing.

To ensure your son receives the appropriate care he needs, I recommend that you contact the lead nurse for Ophthalmology directly - telephone number: 07971 859 326. The Lead Nurse will be able to review the clinical details, assess the urgency of the situation, and help coordinate any necessary next steps.

Kind regards,

Liza Campbell
