"Superb experience at Crosshouse"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / High Dependency Unit

(as the patient),

Most of the time we only ever hear how terrible the NHS is.

My experience tells a different story of how NHS Ayrshire & Arran workers helped make my experience the best it could be.

4 years ago I had a colectomy for bowel cancer - all successful. As part of ongoing scans two years ago another ' lump' was spotted. Following various appointments it was decided to watch and monitor ( in association with NHS Glasgow & Clyde).

In May 2025 a scan showed the lump had grown. An appointment in June decided that surgery, another colectomy, was the best option. This was booked for the start of August.

From arrival at Crosshouse Hospital on the morning at the start of August, though to discharge from ward 4B, all NHS workers I encountered from cleaning staff to consultant were excellent. Putting my mind at ease, contacting family, even fetching me a coffee was done with a smile.

The nursing staff on the ward seemed to be really stretched looking after everyone but despite them being so busy their professionalism showed through. Even when a fellow patient became agitated and aggressive everything was handled and de- escalated in a professional manner.

My especial thanks the Mr Khine and his team along with Ann, Jan, Sam & McKenzie on ward 4B.

We cannot allow our NHS to be diminished.

Dear Simondi

With apologies for the length of time it has taken to reply to you, I would like to thank you for taking the time and trouble to share this lovely feedback about the care provided within Ward 4B, University Hospital Crosshouse.

I am sorry to read that you required admission to hospital for a further colectomy. I am sure this must have been a worrying and anxious time for you.

It is good to know that the care you received on the ward was excellent and that despite being busy, staff were able to put your mind at rest and nothing was too much trouble for them.

It will be my pleasure to share your kind comments with the staff in Ward 4B, and in particular with Mr Khine and his Team and all of the staff you have mentioned by name. I know they will all be delighted to receive this feedback and it will be really encouraging for them to know that you felt so well supported by them.

Please accept my best wishes for your ongoing recovery and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
