"Lack of access to drinks on a hot day"

About: Royal Cornhill Hospital

(as a service user),

Arrived for outpatient appointment recently at cornhill. Didn’t have time to go to shop first to grab a drink. Extremely hot temperatures all day and even more baking hot inside the hospital. Try to buy a drink of water from the shop or cafe but both close at 14.30. Only vending machine seen not working. Get to clinics area which is all windows so even hotter. Water fountain but no cups.

I really think given the current weather there should be better access to water or other cold drinks. Am so glad I’m not an inpatient here if the shop and cafe only open for such short periods and nothing open during visiting hours. Psychiatric meds can interfere with temperature control as well so I feel it is a really poor show

Dear Thirsty/Hot/Grumpy

Thank you for taking the time to share your story. We do take feedback like this seriously and welcome feedback as it enables us to make improvements. We are sorry this was your experience.

We have checked with our business support team, and there are currently no vending machines out of order, so hopefully that is helpful for future visits. Also our WRVS shop is run by volunteers, they currently work till 3pm, but it is sadly outwith our gift to influence the hours the shop is open. We can however, ask our outpatient receptionisits to ensure that there are water cups available at water fountains and would really encourage people using our services to ask reception staff if there are no cups avaible, as the receptionist team may not be aware the stock has been used.

Julia
