"Not being correctly checked in A&E"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I went to A&E after being crushed by my horse and passing out! When being seen by the professional I was told I had a low pain tolerance and it was just soft tissue damage or bruised muscle. The “professional” did not offer x rays or any other scans!

After struggling for a few week I booked in to see my osteopath who discovered I had dislocated, twisted and fractured my second rib as well as fracturing my third rib and shredding the muscle around this. I also damaged my rotator cuff. He explained that as I had been misdiagnosed the recovery would take longer, and potentially lead to it not healing/not healing correctly.

I’m currently 12 weeks on and still struggling for day to day tasks due to my misdiagnosis and not being checked over correctly.

Good morning,

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a response on your experience at Northampton General Hospital.

I am very sorry to hear about your experience in A&E and that the correct investigations were not carried out. This must have been a very worrying and stressful time for you - and continues to be so.

As your feedback is anonymous, please can you email the Patient Experience Team at

ngh-tr.PatientExperience@nhs.net and provide your contact details and I can arrange for someone to speak to you about this as soon as possible.

With best wishes

Sara Francis
