"Poor care"

About: Diabetes / Diabetes Specialist Nurse Service General practices in Tayside

(as the patient),

I have had diabetes type 2 for quite a while now. I was recently put onto a stronger insulin which has made me feel quite poorly. I contacted the specialist nurse team at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and was told to keep a food diary, my levels and how I felt day by day.

I was given an appointment to see a nurse locally to discuss this. However she seemed unaware of why I was there and did not look at the food diary or do very much really. I was sent away still on the same insulin and told to increase it by 1 unit and to continue to up the the dose until the levels came down. My levels fall quite low during the night then climb back up without food.  I don't think I will go back to be honest. I feel they wasted their time and my time. As it was I attended my GP practice today for my review and they did absolutely nothing as well.  I don't know what is going on here but the care leaves a lot to be desired.

Dear lilybee

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your General Practice (GP) and the Diabetes Specialty Nurse Service. Feedback is very valuable to all areas of the NHS, and I am sorry to hear that your experience has not been positive.

Unfortunately, GP practices are not part of Care Opinion at this time, as each GP Practice is an independent business. So that they can see your feedback, we would recommend that you feedback your experience directly to the practice to allow this to be passed on to the staff. The Practice Manager can give you details of how to provide this feedback to them, as per their Complaints and Feedback Policy.

I will ensure that the Diabetes Specialty Nurse Service are aware of your feedback. As Care Opinion is anonymous we ask that you share your details with the Patient Experience Team so that they can investigate this further. You can contact them on email tay.feedback@nhs.scot or leave a message on freephone 0800 027 5507 and a member of the team will call you.

Kind regards

Susan Anderson
