I received a call one morning from a young lady ( Joanna ). She introduced herself to me and asked after my husband, at this time my husband had been in and out of Glasgow Royal several times, 10 I am sure over a two year period, also in Golden Jubilee on three occasions last year having Endo Bronchial valves fitted and surgery. He was on the waiting list to attend Pulmonary Rehabilitation, so he wasn’t too well at all as things hadn’t worked out the way we had hoped. Joanna came to see us to tell us about this service, which we readily agreed to be part of.
Joanna later came back with a lady (Paula). They both explained the next step for my husband, things started, and Paula is now coming in twice a week. The change in my husband after several weeks is amazing, his life was bed to chair and chair to bed having difficulty moving around even indoors , he can now walk outdoors, walk down to our corner (and we are on a hill) and walk back up. He does stop at gate to get his breath back and manages do this in 30 /50 seconds now. We have a wheelchair for him but this hasn’t been used at all in this time , our lives have changed and he can go into some shops now which he loves doing.
This service is amazing, these girls are amazing. We only can hope this service will continue and enable other patients to have life changing experiences that we have had. Fingers crossed my husband will continue to improve however if this is as good as he gets he is still a winner as he has a life now. Thank you NHS and most of all thank you Joanna and Paula, you both deserve a medal.
"This service is amazing"
