"RAH Ward 21 Dream Team!"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 21-23)

(as the patient),

After a long painful day including a floppy leg/ ankle, mountain rescue, an ambulance and multiple scans I was admitted to Ward 21 of the RAH with a broken tib/ fib in a cast up to my knee. I had to stay 3 nights before getting discharged to wait for surgery.

I just want to thank all the staff on ward 21 for the exceptional care I was given. All of the nursing staff specifically: Adele, Chelsea, Angeline and Kayleigh - were all so supportive and attentive throughout.

Everyone always had a smile on their face and nothing was ever a problem. I was really impressed by the student and auxiliary nurses even when having to deal with extremely hard and stressful situations with other patients in the room. Charlie and Cody were fantastic.

My experience overall was hard at times due to uncertainty around getting surgery and fasting when I inevitably didn't get surgery. However, the full nursing team did their best to get the updates from the doctors and to keep my spirits up. I had a couple of moments where I was emotional or close to anger and Adele noticed this and knew what I needed immediately, some kind, comforting words and a hug. This type of care means more to me than I can say and exemplifies the attention that the nurses on 21 show their patients.

Although I would not call being in hospital in immense pain and waiting for surgery a pleasant experience, it was made bearable and at some points even funny through the team there. Talking and showing pictures of my son, meeting Angeline again and talking about past family stories, Chelsea talking about a bird flying into her head before work! (Sorry had to put it in so you don't forget :D) or just Adele being the absolute legend that she is.

A massive thanks to everyone! Although I don't want to be in the position of having to be in hospital like that ever again, if I do - I will be asking to go back to Ward 21!

Hi The Cocktail

Thank you so much for your very complementary feedback on the care you received while in Ward 21.

You certainly sound as though you have had a very traumatic injury and glad that you have made it home and continue to recuperate.

It is always our intention that our staff endeavour to make our patients hospital stay as bearable as possible, but it is re-assuring to know that they have such a positive experience. Sometimes just having a quiet word, sharing a funny story or just having a hug can make the difference.

I will share your feedback with Ward 21 staff, in particularly to Adele, Chelsea, Angeline, Kayleigh, Charlie and Cody.

I'm sure they will be delighted to know that their small attention to detail has had a huge impact on your experience.

Wishing you a speedy recovery

Susan
