"Staff were often rude"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Surgical Receiving Unit (Ward 4)

(as a service user),

Admitted recently for 4 days. Not a single member of staff I encountered did the courtesy of telling me their name.  For 4 days!  Staff were often rude and on several occasions, it took up to 2 hours for pain relief to be administered after asking several times. Very poor care overall.

Do better ward 4!

Later was moved to another ward where every nurse and care assistant was kind courteous and introduced themselves. What a remarkable difference.

Dear Annoyed+patient

I am sorry to read that you had such a poor experience in ward 4 and that no staff member had the courtesy of telling you their name. That is not the standard of practice that I would expect from any staff member. I would expect all staff to routinely introduce themselves and demonstrate a caring and professional approach at all times.

My sincere apologies that this was not the case in ward 4. I will share your comments with the ward 4 team and discuss in person with the Senior Charge nurse and clinical lead to reflect on your comments and experience.

I see that you were then moved to a different ward and felt that there was a remarkable difference with all staff introducing themselves.

Feedback is important to all of us and I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I am sorry that the standard of care provided in ward 4 fell below the standard I would expect.

Best wishes to you

Lise
