"Breaking Habits, and Forgiving Myself"

About: Gambling Harms Clinic

(as a service user),

The reason I referred myself to the NHS Gambling Harms group is because I was spending more on my gambling than I could afford and borrowed more and more from family to cope between paychecks.

It got to the point that I was given an ultimatum - sort out my addiction or lose all support from my family, including my right to stay at the family home.

Having originally considered Gamblers Anonymous, I found their website too ‘preachy’ by relying on your recovery and focus by assigning it to a ‘higher power’.

I’m not against religion or faith - but I would rather handle my faults on my own terms instead of confronting them via this ‘higher power’.

So I signed up with NHS Gambling Harms Group, and was quickly met with my personal therapist Ela and my group therapist Jade.

Ela helped me work through my personal wellbeing, and any issues I had during our sessions; and Jade worked with me (and others) on tips and tricks on handling our emotions and urges in regards to gambling.
