Just wanted to thank the Palliative Care team and Roxburghe Day Unit team! I have a chronic lung condition at a young age and am on the transplant list. My main respiratory consultant, Dr Miller, referred me to them for the 12-week program (attendance once a week from 10 to 3pm) and it was an excellent choice!
I want to thank all the staff, nurses, my Macmillan nurse, speakers, writer and artists involved in the program - not only has every aspect been thoroughly enjoyable, but it has also been critical to my overall wellbeing. From physical care in pain management to the social opportunities and activities, it has been wonderful. The venue itself is wonderful, fresh and has a beautiful garden to sit out in. The room we use for most of the activity is airy, plenty of natural light coming in and large comfy recliner chairs for us. As I use oxygen 24/7, it was really great for them to have a port I can connect to using their oxygen supply instead of using my portable oxygen concentrator where I don't have to worry about running out of battery. We also had breakfast and lunch served each week where the food choice was good and quality excellent. It has also reinvigorated my love for old hobbies and activated new ones! In particular, with both the writing and the art, I'm doing it so much more at home and it's bringing me a lot of joy. But most of all, the people have been really special, patients and staff alike. We had lots of laughs, plenty of support and lots of love. In a world that is hard and where a chronic condition can be very debilitating or isolating, their work and service are absolutely essential and critical.
