"All the staff were brilliant and friendly"

About: Axminster Community Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

Recently I had surgery at Axminster hospital. All the staff were brilliant and friendly. The surgeon wonderful.

Just a bit unfortunate if you happen to be last on the list as I was. It’s a lot of hanging about. But absolutely no complaints about the way I was treated.

I am the clinical manager for ophthalmology services at Axminster Hospital, which is part of the West of England eye Unit (WEEU). We run daily clinics for a variety of ophthalmic conditions. We also undertake macular injections in our treatment room and run daily theatre lists for cataract and oculoplastic surgery. My role is to ensure that we provide a safe efficient patient service across the unit, whilst ensuring that all patients receive a good experience.

Hi golftx79,

I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to write this feedback. I will ensure that I feed this back to the team.

I agree they are all brilliant and work so hard to ensure patients have a good experience.

I completely understand your comments regarding the extended waiting times. The surgeons feel that they can be more efficient if all patients arrive at one time to be seen, this allows for additional diagnostic tests to be performed or further patient interventions without disrupting the operating list. Allowing us to perform more operations and to keep our waiting list lower. However I will raise this point with the lead surgeon as we are always striving to improve our service.

In the meantime we would also welcome any ideas to improve the patient experience, so please do reach out and let us know if there was anything else we could provide whilst patients are waiting to enhance their experience with us?
