"Disabled parking"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Outpatients New Stobhill Hospital (Glasgow)

(as the patient),

I am at Glasgow Royal infirmary monthly to collect medication and attend appointments periodically.

I always try to park in the disabled bays in the basement level off Wishart st so far the last four times I have attended out of 10 spaces it has been ranging from 6 to 8 spaces taken up by cars who do not show blue badges, this happens because people know that no one checks on a regular basis.

I end up having to park on the hill, I have heart failure so hard for me so wonder how bad it is for those in wheelchairs.

I also had to collect cancer medication from Stobhill hospital and parked in visitor/patient drop off and got a ticket. I have a blue badge.

Dear Davidcx25

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you've faced when trying to access disabled parking at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill Hospital. I understand how frustrating and physically challenging this must be for yourself particularly when you're attending for essential treatment and medication.

We are aware of incidences of inappropriate parking across our other hospital sites. We work closely with our parking contractor, to ensure their staff patrol the campus and take appropriate action, including issuing Unauthorised Parking Notices (UPN) to vehicles parked illegally. Unfortunately, as you can imagine, this is challenging due to the size of the sites, managing the available resource and the high number of vehicles that access the site, particularly at peak times. However, we will continue to work closely our contractor to ensure appropriate action is taken for all vehicles parked illegally in blue badge spaces.

I apologise that you were issues a ticket at Stobhill Hospital. If you send a picture of your ticket to: ggc.patientexperience@nhs.scot we will see if we can arrange for this be cancelled. (Would you mind including the Care Opinion link: https://www.careopinion.org.uk/1383579

Thank you

Nicole
