I attended EPAS at PRM over a course of 2.5 weeks for investigation and medical treatment of an ectopic pregnancy.
The midwives and other healthcare workers were all absolutely fantastic and supportive and I cannot fault the care I received from them.
However on 2 of the occasions I visited there were young children and babies in the waiting room. I appreciate the difficulty some other patients may have with childcare to enable them to attend their appointments but it made a difficult experience even harder in being reminded of what I was losing.
Due to the location of EPAS within the PRM with remainder of maternity services I had already encountered pregnant women and parents leaving with newborns which I am aware cannot be helped.
When I mentioned it to staff they said that they were aware of the issue with children in EPAS and they shouldn’t be brought in but was difficult to enforce.
Could I suggest all patients be reminded and if it unable to be avoided a separate waiting area for patients with children to protect those going through pregnancy loss.
