"Efficiency without rushing"

About: Glenfield Hospital / Breast surgery

(as a service user),

I had an appointment recently in Mr Pilgrim's breast clinic. I don't know many people that wouldn't be anxious when a GP makes a referral like this. However the clinic is run very smoothly and sensitively. They have thought about all of the details that make it easier to manage - baskets for your clothes, modest cover up gowns (not open at the back) etc. Everyone that I interacted with from walking in the door to leaving was great. Efficiency without rushing people.

I was really happy with the level discussion had at each stage but especially how Mr Pilgrim explained the situation. He was able to take on board minor accommodations due to my disability. None of the developmental disability pitfalls here. I was spoken to directly, as an adult and was given the space to process information and have support when needed.

He showed considered respect for bodily autonomy - explaining what he would do and asking consent before proceeding even with the most basic of things.

This clinic is definitely an LGBTQ+ safe zone - so no awkward repetition of who your spouse is or assumptions about family plans.

I decided to write this because I had been worried about how the day may go. Hopefully others may find this before attending and be reassured that while there is a lot on their mind, they don't have to worry about the staff or the process.
