"gratitude to these wonderful people"

About: Causeway Hospital / Medical 1 Causeway Hospital / Medical 2 Causeway Hospital / Specialist Palliative Care Team District Nursing / District Nursing - Coleraine North District Nursing / District Nursing - Coleraine South

(as a service user),

In late January 2025, my lovely wife was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

We were so appreciative of the tremendous practical help and emotional support provided by the occupational therapist, Laura, based in Coleraine. A ramp across our two-tier patio  was fitted to enable access and egress for Sandra's wheelchair. Internally, bathroom equipment, bed support and adjustable armchair were quickly installed. Laura (and her students) spent much time helping us to operate and get best use of the equipment.

The District Nurses in later stages of Sandra's life (she passed away in early August), arranged to have a hospital bed installed. Every one of the staff involved showed a terrific dedication and caring attitude. Please convey our family's heartfelt thanks.

May I also thank the medical staff of Med 1 and Med 2 of Causeway Hospital. Led by Dr Farouk, a kindly and sensitive professional, the teams did their utmost to ensure that my wife was as comfortable and pain-free as possible.

It is beyond words to express our family's gratitude to these wonderful people, a credit to their professions and the Northern Trust.

Best Regards.

Hi BrianPC,

I am Nicky Butcher, assistant clinical services manager of medicine at Causeway Hospital.

I would like to express my deepest sympathies regarding the death of your wife Sandra, and can only begin to imagine your loss.

I am so grateful that you took the time, particularly at such a difficult time, to share your experiences with us, and I am so delighted that the teams did what they could to ease some of your wifes suffering, and to ensure that she remained pain free.

I will ensure that I pass on your kind comments to my team in Medical 1, and to the team in Medical2, and also to Dr. Farooq, who will appreciate your feedback.

Kindest regards,

Nicky.
