"Pain during sex"

About: Partnership and community development / Psychosexual Health

(as a service user),

I was experiencing pain during sexual intercourse and from that point I wasn’t able to relax during sex from fear it would be painful. I felt embarrassed and frustrated by it and I always felt guilty for not wanting to have much sex with my partner.

Psychosexual therapy helped me learn relaxation techniques and to be more comfortable within my body. It helped me learn how to be in control of my body and gave me ways to relax within my body and not feel tense and restricted. I also learned a lot more about myself during therapy and allowed me to be more comfortable with sex and exploring things I would have felt awkward about before.

I think psychosexual therapy is extremely important as it allows people to feel less alone in their emotions and to know that it’s normal to feel certain emotions about different scenarios. This therapy helped me realise that a lot of my thoughts and emotions were not abnormal and that a lot of people experience the same things however it’s just not talked about enough.

This overall experience was extremely positive and I’m so glad I overcame any embarrassment I felt in order to better myself for now and in the future.

This service was so helpful and needs to be talked about and advocated for.
