"Psychology for Maternity Trauma"

About: Psychological therapies / Maternity and Neonatal Psychological Intervention Services (MNPI)

(as a service user),

I was assaulted by a consultant during an internal exam in 2023, the consultant didn’t seem to understand the word no, hurt me and didn’t stop when asked.

I was deeply traumatised and after many chats with the senior midwifery team, was offered the opportunity to see a psychologist.

Jennifer is understanding, empathetic, insightful and reassuring in her approach to helping me process it so it doesn’t impact my life and relationship so much.

Thanks to her, I am feeling better and have now been discharged, but I couldn’t have done it without her help.

I didn’t know this service was available for birth and maternity related trauma, and should definitely be talked about more and offered earlier.

Dear warmzx77

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on the service you have received.

I am sorry to hear of your difficult experiences in the past. Alongside this, I am pleased to hear that the support you received from the maternity psychology team has helped you deal with this trauma and that you are now feeling much better.

I will pass your feedback back to the team member.

I wish you well as you move forward.

Thanks again for giving feedback,

Rachel

Dear warmzx77

Thank you for sharing this feedback and although I am glad to hear that you have found the psychology team supportive, I would like to understand if you have spoken with the lead Consultant for support.

I can see that you have spoken to members of the midwifery team so a review of your care with you may have already taken place, however if you have not spoken to a Consultant regarding this can I ask you to link with the staff below to arrange this.

Aileen Cope, Clinical Director of Obstetrics, secretary contact - helen.millar@nhs.scot

Julie Christie, Associate Medical Director of Obstetrics, PA - chloe.kennedy3@nhs.scot

Best Wishes

Alison McBride

Update posted by warmzx77 (a service user)

Hello,

The consultant in question is no longer working for the NHS, so I’m not sure how helpful this would be.

I’ll still email if you think it would be beneficial.

Many thanks.
