"A six and a half week old baby with Viral Meningitis"

About: Victoria Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

It was a very worrying time.  My daughter and son in law were bringing my granddaughter to Fife for the first time and within hours she had a roaring temperature.  They brought her into the children's ward at Kirkcaldy where she got exemplary care.  It was a rollercoaster of a ride and luckily it turned out she had viral meningitis and not bacterial.  Anyway the staff were amazing for lots of reasons, mainly peace of mind, they were calm and efficient (we weren't feeling very calm).  A special shout to two exceptional members of staff Natasha and the Registrar male doctor (dark hair and glasses) who were emphatic, efficient, just made us feel a whole load better - they were great at explaining things.  Thank you!

Dear couragetm83

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It must have been an incredibly worrying time for your family, especially with your granddaughter becoming unwell so soon after arriving in Fife. I'm so glad to hear that she received such exemplary care at the children’s ward in Kirkcaldy.

It’s reassuring to know that the staff were not only clinically excellent but also emotionally supportive—bringing calm and clarity when you needed it most. Viral meningitis can be frightening, and having professionals like Natasha and the registrar (with dark hair and glasses) who took the time to explain things and offer empathy makes all the difference.

Your kind words are a testament to the dedication and compassion of the team. I’ll make sure your message of thanks reaches them. Wishing your granddaughter a continued recovery and health for your whole family.

Kind Regards

Pauline
