"Trying to cancel a colposcopy appointment"

About: University Hospital Lewisham / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I phoned to cancel my colposcopy appointment for next January.

I had a smear test at the previous colposcopy as I have a cervix that can disappear as it is very far back. The nurse told me she could not find my cervix and had to use a brush to gather some cells. The nurse said if I had a follow up appointment I may need oestrogen cream. The appointment was painful and made me bleed.

I received an appointment for next January. However, as the nurse could not find my cervix, get enough cells, made me bleed and I am 65, I decided to cancel my appointment.

Obviously, the receptionist knows more than me and said the nurse could find my cervix, there was no problem, she just needed more cells. She did not cancel the appointment.

Not happy as she was not at my appointment, and did not know what was said. She also knows nothing about me or my cervix. Receptionists are admin staff not medical staff.

Obviously some medical staff are more experienced at colposcopies then others. I did try and cancel this appointment so apologies.
